Interaction with Guests
I am available most of the time to visit, give directions and advise on activities and events in the area. I also work closely with our local Visitors Bureau & others to get the most for your sightseeing and shopping pleasure.
The Neighborhood
Our town is a sleepy German village in the central Susquehanna River Valley of Pennsylvania. Sitting along Penns Creek, it is a dividing line between Union and Snyder counties. With a population of just over 800 it was the original county seat of Union County. The courthouse building still stands in the Town Square and houses the Courthouse Museum. Our area is rich in history with museums, covered bridges, and Amish farms that offer many types of road stands throughout the county. Wineries & antique shoppes also dot the area not to mention the many festivals and fairs we are noted for. Also close by are Penn State, Bucknell, & Susquehanna Universities. For a better look at our area check with the Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau.
Getting Around
Our on street parking is very convenient. Car rentals are available at the local airports. Taxi service can also be found in nearby towns.
Other Things to Note
The Emporium (our in house antique, craft & learning center) offers classes from time to time and staying with us makes a great time to take a class or two. The 4th weekend in August the town celebrates New Berlin Days. Central Pennsylvania’s largest one day street festival features purveyors of fine antiques, arts, and crafts. Approximately 50 antique dealers and 50 craft vendors are set up along Market, Vine and Plum Streets. Traditional Pennsylvania German and American festival food and drink are also available on the streets and at the adjoining Fireman’s Field. Chicken BBQ halves and dinners are offered at the Social Hall. Entertainment plus an open house at The New Berlin Heritage Museum (the original 1815 Union County Courthouse) makes for a great day. A quilt raffle and silent auction are held in the afternoon.
